Preventing tooth decay and cavities is an important part of maintaining lifelong oral health and strong teeth. Nixa family dentists Dr. Jacob McLauchlin and Dr. Tyler Bare often recommend that patients have dental sealants placed on the biting surfaces of the larger chewing teeth, often called molars.
Often recommended for pediatric patients, dental sealants are also effective for adults who may be prone to tooth decay or have deeply pitted molars where food can become easily trapped. Dental sealants can prevent harmful bacteria from becoming lodged in the uneven surfaces of these teeth that can be difficult to brush effectively, especially for younger patients.
What Are Dental Sealants?
Dental sealants are thin, plastic materials that are “painted on” the surface of molars and pre-molars during a quick and easy procedure. Our dental care team applies the liquid material with a small brush, ensuring that all the pits and fissures of the larger, chewing teeth are covered before curing it with a special light.
Dr. McLauchlin or Dr. Bare can place dental sealants during a single visit to our Nixa family dentist office.
